At Everlyfe, we do something that used to be impossible: we create a fully realized, three-dimensional sculpture from just a single photograph.

Because our process relies on that one image, the quality of the photo you provide is the foundation of the final tribute. While our team of artists can work wonders with AI-assisted modeling, starting with a clear, well-lit photo ensures the most faithful likeness possible.

What Makes a “Perfect” Photo?

To help you choose the right image, we’ve put together a quick visual guide. Here is what we look for when we begin the hand-refining process:

Everlyfe photo submission guide showing good vs bad lighting and angles for 3D printing
1. Focus & Clarity (The “Checkmark” Shot)
  • The Goal: Sharpness. We want to see the “soul” in the eyes and the unique details of the face.
  • Avoid: Blurry or pixelated images. If the photo is out of focus, it’s much harder for our artists to define specific features.
2. Lighting is Key
  • The Goal: Even, natural light. Front-facing light (like standing near a window) works best.
  • Avoid: Heavy shadows or very dark rooms. If half the face is in shadow, we have to “guess” at the missing details.
3. Face the Camera
  • The Goal: A direct, head-on portrait.
  • Avoid: Looking too far to the side or tilting the head at extreme angles. A slight 3/4 turn can work, but “face-on” provides the most accurate data for 3D modeling.
4. Nothing in the Way
  • The Goal: A clear view of the facial structure.
  • Avoid: Hands touching the face, large glasses that obscure the eyes, or hair covering the features.

“But I only have one old photo…”

We know that in many cases—especially for memorial tributes—the perfect photo doesn’t exist. You might only have a vintage Polaroid, a cropped wedding photo, or a candid snapshot from a family dinner.

Don’t worry.

Our guide above shows the “ideal” scenario for a new photograph, but we are experts at working with what you have. If your photo is old, slightly grainy, or isn’t “perfect” by technical standards:

  • We Evaluate Every Image: Our team manually reviews every photo submitted.
  • Artistic Interpretation: Our artists use their expertise to fill in the gaps that technology might miss, ensuring the spirit of the person is captured.
  • Personal Consultation: If we feel a photo truly won’t work, we’ll reach out to you directly to discuss options.

The Bottom Line

The best photo is often the one that captures their essence. If you look at a photo and say, “That’s exactly how I remember them,” that’s usually the right place to start.
